Pushing closer to the brink,
We explore the cosmic link:

Scientists who map the stars-
Thrilling riffs from cool guitars;

Déjà vu and sounds that rhyme-
Particles in quantum time;

Politicians of distinction-
Animals that face extinction;

Jazz pianos through the night-
Lovers in the morning light;

Fire, earthquakes, floods and drought-
Mass confusion, fear and doubt.

Lashed to you by bands of steel-
Handcuffed in this great ordeal,

I say metaphors are real.
