RECENT EVENTS: LITQUAKE 2007!

Tanea Lunsford reads her work

Words and writers filled Valencia Street in San Francisco’s annual Litquake “Litcrawl” event on Saturday October 13th, 2007. This year, Small Press Distribution took part for the first time by holding a New Lit Generation Reading and Poetry Trading Post at Marsh Café, one of many venues enjambed with people and language.

As fellow writers shouldered their way into the demi-staged event there was more than just a poetry reading: SPD also offered our famous Poetry Trading Post. The Trading Post generated writing on the spot, and allowed litcrawlers to add to their collection of books by offering their poem for a book of poems.

In support of New Lit Generation, SPD presented readings from established poets Eileen Tabios who recently published The Light Sang As It Left Your Eyes (2007); Joseph Lease who teaches at CCA in SF and just published new poems in Broken World (2007); Elaine Kahn, a poetry buyer at City Lights Bookstore and a graduate of CCA; and Dennis Somera who works with kids in SF and Oakland and recently got his MFA from Mills College. SPD also brought bright young word crafters, Tanea Lunsford and Eli Wolfe, both juniors at School of the Arts to add their new voices to the reading.

Meanwhile, the literary arts took over the streets, cafés and other venues to create an inviting, innovative, and inspiring night given over to poetry and power of the word.
