the goodness of a rainy day

by Jessica Earley

i took a walk home in the rain
and with most things on the ground covered in wet,
a lot of things could be mistaken for a toad.

and when your hair gets wet you can remember the smell of your last shower.
and when the trees get wet they can remember the smell of their fruits.

a taxi cab sits waiting for a client
a garden sits waiting for attention

there are magnolias blooming in the air above my head

and the sun is always somewhere in the distance
