Hope and forgiveness

By Erik Hidalgo

Stuck hopeless
in a box of
burning fate
with no way out

the smell of
gasoline
smoke
and blood

makes tears
water down your cheek

then comes
memories of that
tragic day
that face

and that blue uniform

the feel of his dirty white skin
on your body
stuck to your head

he reaches out to help you
but you’d rather watch your own skin
melt before your eyes
then look into his
ever again

but suddenly
you catch a glimpse
of a changed man
and the actual color of his heart

is it worth dying?
In a world full of hate?
or instead
live in a world
that can be changed?

the decision comes to break free
and give it another chance

let this be a vision to you and me
this life isn’t always what it seems to be

forgiveness
