Poetry. Eighteen new poems extend the trajectory of Jean Valentine's work. Included are selections from her four previous books: Dream Barker, Pilgrims, Ordinary Things, and The Messenger. Her themes of pilgrimage, time, and human connection are revealed in intense meditations. "After reading a couple of Jean Valentine's poems I need to catch my breath. Then I read further-maybe two or three to quiet myself, which does happen for a while. But then I put the book down, breathless"--Grace Paley.
