SOUTHERN FRONT is a collection of stories that describe the experiences of the international volunteers who went to Nicaragua to join the Sandinistas in their overthrow of the Somoza regime. The stories, which take place during the final offensive and aftermath of the war, focus mainly on Ulises, a Chicano internationalist from Los Angeles.
