Nonfiction. SAGA DE MEXICO is a distinctive reader for a fourth-year high school or second-year college class. It provides students with well-written, interesting stories and gives them a clear picture of the history of Mexico from pre-Columbian times to the present, supplemented with a view of contemporary Chicano life in the U.S. Southwest. Anecdotal and artistic presentations of the most significant periods of Mexican and Chicano history have been extracted from the works of well-known authors and arranged in chronological order. Each of the eleven major divisions of the book is preceded by a short historical introduction and is illustrated with an attractive photograph, painting, or woodcut by one of Mexico's most distinguished artists.
