Few knowthat this town was first discovered not by the Hollywood directors who used it as the backdrop for countless Westerns, but by authors like Zane Grey and numberless artists, starting with the eminent French surrealist Max Ernst who went there with Peggy Guggenheim in 1940. Isabel Stroud sought out 35 artists who were active in Sedona from the 1970s up to the present and interviewed them about their life and work before her death in 2005. Reissued to commemorate the author's 100th birthday this year.
