Literary Nonfiction. Memoir. Translated from the Spanish by Cola Franzen. In May 1974 Chilean painter, graphic artist and theatrical designer Guillermo Núñez was arrested by the Security Branch of the Air Force on the suspicion that he was harboring fugitives that were being hunted by the Junta. Although no charges were ever brought against him, he was kept imprisoned, almost always with a blindfold, in the basement of the Air Force Academy for more than five months. He was released on probation on October 9th, 1974, with stringent restrictions made on all his movements and activities. Afterwards, he began to produce a flood of paintings, drawings, engravings, poems and sculptured forms. During this period he also constructed a written account of his imprisonment: DIARY OF A VOYAGE.
