Magali Garcia Ramis was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. She holds a Bachelors degree in history from the University of Puerto Rico, a Masters degree in journalism from Columbia University, and has studied literature in the doctoral program at the Universidad Autonoma in Mexico. Her short story "Todos Los Domingos" won first prize at the Ateneo de Puerto Rico short story competition. She is also the author of two collections of short stories and a collection of journalistic essays.
