Poetry. Mario Susko, a survivor of the war in Bosnia who came to the US in 1993, has translated into Croation the works of many prominent American writers. His poetry has been translated into Romanian, German, Chinese, Italian, Polish and Slovenian. He is also a three-time Fullbright scholar, has taught primarily at the University of Sarajevo; also at Nassau Community College on Long Island, New York. He edited and translated several anthologies and is the recipient of several awards. Susko's most recent books include a Croatian edition of The Life After (Zagreb: Meandar, 2002), the integral translation of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass (Zagreb: Meandar, 2002) and his 1982-2002 selected poems, Reading Life and Death (Zagreb: Meandar, 2003).

A witness and survivor of the war in Bosnia, Mario Susko received his M.A. and Ph.D. from SUNY Stony Brook in the 1970s and moved back to the US in 1993. A three-time Fulbright scholar, he has taught at the University of Sarajevo, but has lived more than half of the past 36 years in the US. He is currently an Associate Professor in the English Department at Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY. Mario Susko has published 75 books, 25 of which are volumes of his own poems. He has also edited and translated several anthologies and is the recipient of many awards.
