Poetry. In his introduction, Strang writes, These cavatinas are improvisations on the poetry of Guido Cavalcanti (1250-1300), contemporary and friend of Dante Alighieri and the subject of much study and translation by Ezra Pound. Deliberately unfaithful to the originals, I mistranslated from the Italian, a language of which I have, unfortunately, severely limited knowledge. A bright, lyric quality pervades these poems.
