KRISHNA, A LOVE STORY is set in India of the late 1960's, a setting that is fast disappearing--the lush, rolling tea gardens near Darjeeling set in the shadow of Mount Everest, a far less frenetic Calcutta, and the lingering vestiges of the British Raj still clinging to certain characters and institutions. This is a story of love, but also of violence that lurks beneath the surface of a vast sub-continent and communities as diverse as anything one can discover in the entire European continent. This is not an 'immigrant' South Asian story, but a tale of multi-dimensional characters rooted in their culture and its oddities and contradictions. Ashis Gupta is a novelist and the publisher of Bayeux Arts, Inc. Ashis was a student in Boston University's Creative Writing program, and subsequently obtained a doctorate in English Literature from Boston University. He has taught in many parts of the world. He lives in Calgary, Alberta.
