Poetry. Translated from the Romanian by Adam J. Sorkin. Mariana Marin's PAPER CHILDREN is the first book available in English by this prominent and controversial Romanian writer. This posthumous collection, the fourteenth in the Ugly Duckling Presse's Eastern European Poets Series, features works from Marin's Romanian books, The Studios (Atelierele) and The Secret Annex (Aripa secreta). Winner of the Romanian Writer's Union Prize for debut poetry in 1981, and the Virgil Mazilescu special literary prize in 2001, just two years before her untimely death. "Mariana Marin's music testifies to the poisons of history and geography. Marin is all poet and her work makes it darkly and swiftly into English"-Andrei Codrescu.
Mariana Marin was born in Bucharest in 1956, where she grew up, graduated from University, and worked as a free-lance journalist. She died in 2003.
