Poetry. In MAKING MARKS, the word has become the compositional unit. The strictures of the word, the letters that make it up, syllables and meter, form the rules under which what follows is generated. Upper case letters within a word and across words create other words, other trajectories of reading and for making meaning. This strategy serves to formally lay bare the construction of the poem, the work of the poem, the formal architecture of the pieces visible in their making. All this play, this cracking open of the text has uncovered or unleashed a re-assignment of subjectivity, a dismantling of gender roles, a place to articulate a forbidden lust—erotic and intellectual—in the figure of a mother working/writing. Saddlestapled chapbook.
