Poetry. African-American Studies. A limited edition chapbook of only 200 copies, 1946 is one long poem in which the poet explores time and what time can and can not change. Zu-Bolton begins, "There are worst places / to be born into / than Mississippi, in 1946, / worst places to be born a Black / colored boy" and ends when "we moved toward a new century, / our village torn apart, the colorline still / defining us, but the music is still ours, the strugglesong / ours, the poetry of myth & reality / still ours." Zu-Bolton's last book was Ain't No Spring Chicken. This is his fifth book of poetry.
