Fiction. Karen Lee Boren, drawing on her midwestern roots, explores the complex relationship between language and intimacy, between the heritage we're born with and our chosen paths. Each character is adrift in her life, searching for a place to land. She is lost when her mother tongue fails her, struggling to find a new connection to her loved ones and her life.
Author Bio
Karen Lee Boren was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with these Midwestern roots serving as inspiration for some of her stories and characters. Currently, Karen is working as a professor at Rhode Island College. Her alma maters include the University of Wisconson-Milwaukee, where she obtained both her BA and PhD, and Wichita State University, where she earned an MFA in creative writing. Of this collection, she says: "The stories themselves reflect my own deepening belief in the ability of fiction to bring us closer to other people than any other artistic medium. In a way, fiction brings us closer to other people than actual life."
