Poetry. MOVABLE TYYPE is the first new collection by Kathleen Fraser in seven years. This inventive new book showcases poems from four recent collaborative artist books that exhibit "her longtime love of words as objects into play" (The New York Times). These new poems, many created through her unique collage and hand paste-up techniques, continue Fraser's ambitious exploration of the boundaries of language and the limits of the page.

Author City: SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA

Kathleen Fraser grew up in Oklahoma, Colorado, and California. In 1959, she received a degree in English Literature from Occidental College. After graduating, she moved to New York City to work as an editorial assistant for Mademoiselle magazine before pursuing her poetic studies. Among Fraser's poetic influences are Black Mountain, New York School, and Objectivist poets, including Frank O'Hara, Barbara Guest, and George Oppen. She has published more than a dozen books of poetry and prose, including mixed-genre collections, a chapbook of collaged wall pieces, and an essay collection. Her published works include when new time folds up (Chax Press, 1993), il cuore: the heart (Wesleyan University Press, 1997), Translating the Unspeakable (University Alabama Press 1999), DISCRETE CATEGORIES FORCED INTO COUPLING (Apogee Press, 2004) and MOVABLE TYYPE (Nightboat Books, 2011). She lives in San Francisco and spends each spring in Rome.
