Hamburger has been a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Paris and in India and Morocco, and has had several residencies at the MacDowell Colony and at the Ossabaw Island Project. Robert Hamburger's first three books were the subject of an exhibition at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture as well as television, radio and theatrical treatments. He has been a Fulbright Lecturer in Paris, India and Morocco, and has had several residencies at the MacDowell Colony and at the Ossabaw Island Project. His work has earned him two research grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. His documentary film, Freedom's Front Line: Fayette County, Tennessee, was aired on WKNO, Memphis's PBS station, in February 2007. He lives in New York City.
