Tree’s Company

By Nick Jordan

The tree
Sits,
Resting on the hill
Presiding over all below it.

Among a sea of green
The tree waits
And grows.

Even in the concrete jungle
The tree persists.

The Forest is long gone,
Made into paper, chairs, even tinder
For an unnoticed fireplace.
Now only the stump remains.

The tornado
Obliterated the town
And now,
A tree grows.

Summer begins
And a couple meets under
Spring passes
And the rain falls
Fall sets in
Leaves litter the ground
Winter completes
And the tree is gone from sight.

Acorns fall
Pine needles drop
Trees stand.

People talked
The storm drew near
The trees anticipated

People bleed
Just as words do
Or at least until the ink dries
And the tree
Bleeds.

The garden
Seemed frozen over
With the shade
Of the Oak tree.

A person can be a part of a crowd
But does the same
Go for a tree
Amidst the forest?

Even disrespected
You can throw lights and ornaments on them
Thankfully the pine
Enjoys the spotlight.

Beyond description
Beyond the thicket
Skyscrapers stand tall
And trees stand proud.
