My Dear Lemon

By Nigel Bermudez

The dirt
Looks like a ghost town
I panic, with carelessness
The lemon

Sour and yellow hits my eyes
I don’t squint
They fall like tennis balls
It keeps its circular shape

My body begins to shrink as I get
Closer to the lemon
As if someone was aiming a rubber
Band at me

But on the inside it’s as mean as a bee
I
Pick
The lemons
Up

Slightly squishy
It’s my creation
I shouldn’t think bad of it
They’re all the same
I bite into it

My eyes light up
My mouth shrinks up
Tears in my eyes
I start to shake my head

The sourness is too much to bear
The bee sting of the lemon finally
Ends.
