Ode to my Skateboard Wheel

By Taylor Winsted

To my skateboard wheel; to the feet of my youth
So red
So transparent
Your smooth texture
Keeps my feet steady
I rely on you
To get me around
You’ve been there for me
Through thick and thin
From deck to deck
From truck to truck
You’re so perfect in form
Seemed to be weald from the gods
For you are perfect
In size
In length
The best $10 I’ve ever spent
If it wasn’t for you
I would’ve been late
Not only today but for the past seven years
You keep me rolling
Kept me from harm
Well not always
Actually not really at all
You’ve been through a lot
And over a lot
Miles and miles
Of concrete and asphalt
In schoolyards
In downtown
From 3rd St.
To 43rd Ave.
You helped me express myself
For you are art
Better yet you are the paintbrush
Flowing the concrete canvas of the world
So smooth
And transparent
See right through you
Know where you are going
I am your master
And you are my servant
Making my ride faster and faster
I owe you a couple of
Years of favors
