The Original Addiction

by Samantha Kearns

She starts with chills, cold sweat
Leads to body aching.
Her mind spins, lost again
To something or someone unknown.

This pain happens to her, only her,
Eden in her world.
This time, just once
She ate the forbidden luxury.

She cut herself open, removed a rib;
Perhaps why she's in pain.
Instead of spinning, mind is empty
Dwelling on nothing more.
