John "Cal" Freeman is a poet and essayist from Dearborn, MI. He is the author of the book Fight Songs, and his writing has appeared in many journals including Southword, The Moth, Passages North, Hippocampus, Southwest Review, and The Poetry Review. He is the recipient of the Devine Poetry Fellowship (judged by Terrence Hayes) and winner of Passages North's Neutrino Prize. He currently serves as Writer-in-Residence with InsideOut Literary Arts Detroit and teaches at Oakland University.
