Packiyanathan Ahilan was born in 1970 during a troubled period in Sri Lanka. His greatest influences are the Russian modernist Anna Akmatova, the Kirghiz writer Chingiz Aitmatov and the Indian Tamil poet Sukumaran. He lives in Sri Lanka.
