Marjon Mossammaparast was born in Iran in the year of the Islamic Revolution. The ensuing war with Iraq saw her family flee the city of Abadan during the first bombings. After a few years in Tehran, the family temporarily disbanded, with she and her mother seeking refuge from religious persecution in Italy, and her father being smuggled into Pakistan. Mossammaparast started her formal schooling in Tortona and came to Australia when the family was granted refugee status in 1986. In 1999, she spent a year in Zhengzhou, China, and subsequently lived and worked in Macau for three years. Mossammaparast holds a BA in Teaching and an MA of Education from the University of Melbourne. For the past twelve years she has taught as a secondary school English teacher in Melbourne.
