Dr. Daniel Berger is a leading HIV specialist in the U.S. and an active patron of the arts. He is Clinical Associate Professor at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago and medical director and founder of Northstar Medical Center, the largest private HIV treatment and research center in the Greater Chicago area. Berger has conducted more than 200 HIV-related clinical research trials and has published extensively in journals including the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine and was a contributor to HIV – The First Year: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed. In 2006, he was honored by Test Positive Aware Network with a Charles E. Clifton Leadership Award for his years of service to the HIV community.

Berger is an avid collector of contemporary art, focusing on works by queer artists and artists of African descent. In 2010, he founded Iceberg Projects, a Chicago alternative exhibition space. In 2015, Berger acquired the archives of Art+Positive, an important affinity group of ACT UP New York and in 2015, he with co-editor John Neff, published Militant Eroticism, The Art+Positive Archives (Sternberg Press). He is a member of the Board of Governors at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, serves on the Collections Committee for the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the Board of Trustees of the Leslie-Lohman Museum in New York City.
