We at SPD are deeply saddened by the passing of poet, mentor and longtime friend of SPD, Kevin Killian.
It's difficult to articulate how much Kevin Killian's generosity meant to the Bay Area. From his ceaseless mentorship of young poets, to his witty amazon reviews, the cutty introductions at poetry readings he hosted to his charming style of gossip, not to mention his incredible oevre of writing - his passing has left an impossible gap in the West Coast poetry scene.
Kevin's friendship, however, expanded way beyond California - over the past 24 hours alone it has become apparent how much attention he paid to conversations with other poets, his correspondences always encompassing the trials and tribulations of life, theoretical/poetic musing, and most of all, a vast kindness and compassion to those he loved. His poetry, only a small fragment of which is featured below, has no doubt reached many more. He will be sorely missed, and our hearts are with everyone grieving at this time.
