James Hogg was born in 1770 in Scotland. He was a poet, novelist, and essayist who worked as a shepherd and farm- hand until achieving a degree of literary fame. William Wordsworth once described Hogg as "a man of original genius." JUSTIFIED SINNER is his most famous work. Hogg died in 1835.
