Poetry. Art. Dancing on a Pin is Katerina Fretwell's eighth poetry, and art, collection. Honest, stark, brave, and at times a humorous evoking of feelings and ideas, this collection of evocative poems is focused on the poet's husband's illness (cancer) and eventual death, her close sharing of this process, and the frustration of dealing with modern medical treatment, that is controlled by the pharmaceutical industry. But mostly, this is a series of poems that make meaning of two people on a journey.
Katerina Vaughan Fretwell's recent poetry collections, ANGELIC SCINTILLATIONS (2011), CLASS ACTS (2013), DANCING ON A PIN (2015), and WE ARE MALALA (2019), published by Inanna, include her art work. Her award- winning poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies in Canada, Denmark, Japan, United States, and Wales. Her sestina, "Kissing Cousins," was shortlisted for Descant Magazine's Winston Collins Poetry Prize, 2012. Five poems from DANCING ON A PIN were finalists in subTerrain's Lush Triumphant Poetry Contest, 2015. Fretwell chaired the 2005 Lowther Jury Prize and edited two anthologies for the Feminist Caucus, League of Canadian Poets, 2004 and 2006. She lives in Seguin, Ontario.Author City: Parry Sound, ON CAN
