Description
THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO REASON opens a window to a world that is simple and uncomplicated, an innocent age that faces inevitable regress. The stories showcase the quirks and cruelties of traditional Indian society, its religious bigotry, and its prejudices and superstitions, amidst its small-town charms and cruelties. The youth leave the antics of childhood and struggle to find their place in the world. Sidelined and powerless, they learn to negotiate the cruelties of a sectarian world, lose their innocence to predators, face excesses of tradition, and yet still look at the world with a childlike sense of justice. A frayed thread runs through the stories, linking a fast-disappearing innocent age to an uncertain present, imbuing the stories with a mellow autumnal mood.
Fiction.
