Description
Inaugural Hanging Loose Press Founders Award winning first full poetry collection.
Winner of the inaugural Hanging Loose Press Founders Award, SUNDRY ABDUCTIONS is Maria Himmelman’s first full poetry collection. The poems are funny, sophisticated, exacting while sometimes surreal, and an astonishing joy to read. SUNDRY ABDUCTIONS is a book full of surprises that reveal truths one couldn’t have guessed, matching intelligence with beauty that is not easily achieved. Readers will find both narrative and lyric poems here, poems both spare and theological, dangerous and witty.
Poetry. Jewish Studies. Women's Studies.
“Himmelman’s poems are narrative and lyric . . . spare and theological . . . dangerous and witty . . . surreal . . . obsessed with the little details of our lives. These poems contain the lines that you’ll text and email to friends. I love this book.”
—German Alexie
“...a wonder of a book and a book of wonder. Each line, each word in SUNDRY ABDUCTIONS demonstrates a thrilling precision and intelligence. Here, the whole world is an option, the whole world a metaphor for the poet’s world. These poems are funny, sophisticated, exacting while sometimes surreal, and an astonishing joy to read.”
