They are also the only townsfolk to have befriended their reclusive next-door neighbor, old Will Turley. After Will dies accidentally, he leaves his grand brick house, with all its contents, and which has been for decades his refuge from the torments of his youth, to them.

Jonathan Strong's Tike and Other Stories was published in 1969, his senior year at Harvard. Since then he has published fourteen novels while teaching at Harvard, Bread Loaf and at Tufts University. QUIT THE RACE is set in his native Illinois.
