Description
Poetry. Fiction. "The wisdom so alive in Phyllis Wat's poetry is channeled, letting what is seen 'grow beyond its appearance' and what is said become 'the strong voice that binds uncertainty.' The turns of thought are often surprising and shapely, changing in scale while the volume is kept steady."—Anselm Berrigan
"For Phyllis Wat, truth is not a principle: it is what is actually going on. Her poems are thinking poems; the joy is the slipping away and breaking out of ideas, landing with a detail. It is a delight to read WU and put your ear and imagination under her guidance."—Barbara Henning
"There is a silken power in Phyllis Wat's language. 'The rubber band,' she writes, 'is a vibrating string of theory.' Her poems can also harrow, as with 'In Green Begin,' which powerfully explores violence and its impact."—Patricia Spears Jones
